What a start! Lightning McQueen kicks off the 2017 NAIAS
Look, he is here! Lightning McQueen, the star of the Disney Pixar movies “Cars” kicked off the 2017 North American International Auto Show! Welcome to Detroit McQueen.
Just a few minutes ago, Disney Pixar hosted its press conference at the Atrium stage at the Cobo Center in Detroit. On stage, John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer at Pixar Animation Studios, introduced the life-size version of Lightning McQueen.
In addition to Lightning McQueen, we will see two new characters in the upcoming movie “Cars 3”. One will be Jackson Storm, representing the latest evolution of the modern racing car. The other one will be Cruz Ramirez, a young Hispanic female race car. Jay Shuster and Jay Ward, the production designers at Pixar, presented the new cars to the audience.
Furthermore the Pixar officials presented a first glimpse on the new movie. Jay Ward and Jay Shuster explained, that Lightning McQueen will face a tough challenge in “Cars 3”. After ten years, also Lightning McQueen must admit that time doesn’t stand still. As a result he recognizes that a new generation of race cars steps up to him. He has to give everything in order to maintain his success. But then the unthinkable happens..
In a head-to-head race Lightning McQueen loses control and crashes. The rookie Jackson Strom seems to win the race. How does the story continue? Will Lightning McQueen recover from his fatal accident and race again?
We will soon find out when Cars 3 will hit the movie theaters in summer 2017.
Visitors of the Detroit Auto Show can have a look at the life-size version of Lightning McQueen. McQueen can be visited at a special Cars 3 display at the show floor.
